Aldi is launching a huge 6 litre bottle of prosecco for Christmas – and it fills 64 glasses

Remember the three litre bottles of prosecco that Aldi sold last Christmas? The £40 jeroboams were so popular they sold out quickly, and now the supermarket has gone one step further by launching methuselah bottles, containing a whopping six litres or 64 glasses of fizz.

The enormous bottle holds the equivalent of eight bottles of prosecco, meaning you should be able to keep the fizz free-flowing throughout the Christmas festivities. The only problem is, you may well struggle to fit it in the fridge!

Tempted? The six litre bottles will be released for the very first time on 14 November, and sold exclusively online for £79.99 while stocks last. According to Aldi, the Giotti Spumante Prosecco combines an assortment of complementary flavours such as lemon zest, tangerine and pear, making it particularly appealing to drinkers with a sweet tooth.

The 11 per cent ABV prosecco comes from Veneto in Italy, and flew off the shelves when it was first sold in jeroboam bottles in November 2017. It was such a success that Aldi also sold magnums of the tipple ahead of the Easter break, and is bound to be another popular buy when it returns in November.

It's no wonder so many supermarkets are offering budget bottles of fizz - Brits are the biggest fans of prosecco in the world, and a recent report from The Consortium for the Protection of Prosecco revealed that out of the 410.9 million bottles of prosecco produced in 2016, one third came straight to the UK – equating to roughly 135,597,000 bottles!

Aldi is not only catering to prosecco fans this Christmas, as the budget supermarket is also launching wine advent calendars that contain a miniature bottle of wine behind every door. The calendar was a sell-out success when it went on sale in 2017, so we can predict the same again when it returns to stores on 4 November.
