Almost Famous founder to launch new SuperAwesomeDeluxe burger concept bar in Northern Quarter

The founder of cult burger restaurant Almost Famous has announced plans for a new smash burger takeaway concept in Manchester. Called SuperAwesomeDeluxe, it will take over the former Lono Cove bar site on Thomas Streeet.

The late-night venue will serve ultra smashed burgers in a fast order takeaway style. It will only serve limited numbers each day to "keep the quality".

Owner Beau Myers first launched Almost Famous in Manchester's Northern Quarter back in 2012 - pioneering the "dirty burger" trend in the city and sparking queues around the block from hungry punters desperate to get inside.

Beau now says he's come up with the "best burger I've ever made" in launching new spin-off venture SuperAwesomeDeluxe.

He is launching a crowdfunder to raise a further £50k to put with their own investment to get the venture off the ground which is set to launch in July.

Beau told the MEN: "I promise you it's the best burger I've ever made and ever had - it's going to blow peoples' minds".

Beau took to social media earlier this month to announce the new project, and to explain how the concept came about amid his own mental health journey.

He says: "It was born in lockdown - it was actually ironically going to be called SAD burger and be a pop up only there for a week - but it’s so damn good it needs to stay forever.

"I’m trying to shake my depression so we’re losing the SAD and it’s just super awesome. I’ve always struggled with mental health - I have a form of borderline which can be my superpower and also my curse - manic bouts of creativity offset with crippling self doubt and anxiety."

He adds: "It feels so good to be doing something new and fresh again - if not slightly terrifying. I'm not looking for sympathy I know everyone’s struggling in some way, and I don’t want people to think I’m not capable - I want to show you can be broken but still amazing at the same time."

Beau has been working with acclaimed local butcher Lee "Frosty" Frost on getting the right blend of beef for the burgers. He says: "It’s like no burger you’ve had before.

"If you’ve never had a proper ultra smashed burger it’s when you take super tender juicy beef and press it out on a red hot grill really thin- we use a new technique to get all the crispy bits but a super juicy middle.

"They’re so naughty and so delicious and just what Manchester and the world needs right now. We’re making sauces fresh and our own pickles, even chipping our own fried straight from potato. And keeping it to limited numbers every day to ensure the quality is the best always."

The Crowdfunder appeal is set to launch in July, and Beau says it will also help to "build the sense of community" to get people involved in the journey.

Details have not yet been revealed, but it will include the fundraising option of "rewards" for supporters as well as the opportunity to be among the first to taste the SuperAwesomeDeluxe burgers when it opens.

It is hoped that the burger bar will be ready to open by the end of Summer.
