The Amazing Race Finale Recap: Which Team Conquered the ‘Seattle Scramble’ and Took Home the Grand Prize?

It all comes down to this.

At the top of Wednesday’s Season 35 finale of The Amazing Race, the Final 3 teams — Rob and Corey, Greg and John, and Joel and Garrett — depart Dublin, Ireland for Seattle, where they’re about to face off in a very hectic last leg for that $1 million prize.

When the teams arrive at the Space Needle, their first clue is on the tippy-top of the massive structure. Teams must harness up and walk out to the Needle’s edge in order to get their next clue, which details the “Seattle Scramble” in which they’re about to partake. Teams will have to complete three separate tasks. In “Grunge,” they’ll be roadies for a band; in “Grab,” they’ll swing from a high trapeze; and in “Glass,” they’ll blow molten glass into shape. They can complete the tasks in any order, and each completed job will give them a piece of their next clue.

The brothers and BFFs choose the glass blowing first, which does not look easy whatsoever. But over at the trapeze, Rob struggles hard to tuck his legs under the bar, which made me wonder if this could be a challenge that costs Dad and son the whole shebang. But on his 8th try, Rob pulls it off and they head out to the Grunge task, while Greg and John break glass after glass after glass. Devastating.

The Grunge challenge throws every duo for a loop (the amp is under the speaker lid?!), but by the time Greg and John get everything powered up, it’s very clear they’re in the back of the pack. (These poor guys can’t seem to catch a break.) Joel and Garrett miraculously complete the trapeze before Greg and John even finish their training session, which puts the beard/’stache partnership right in first place.

The three clue fragments bring teams to an airport where they must arrange a series of kayaks in the correct order. Each kayak has the name of the Race‘s detours and road blocks on them. Joel and Garrett struggle to get it right and fail their first two checks, while Greg and John fly through it all thanks to John’s stellar memory. Thus, they become the first team to get the final clue, directing them to Clise Mansion in Marymoor Park. After Joel and Garrett realize their huge mistake (they swapped the tightrope mission from Episode 1 with the plane mission in Slovenia), they’re hot on the brothers’ trail.

But in the end, nothing could stop Greg and John from reaching Phil first and the brothers become the newly crowned winners of The Amazing Race! Joel and Garrett place second, while Rob and Corey land in third.
