Amazon delivery driver ambushed by gang of thugs

An Amazon delivery driver was ambushed by a gang of thugs as he carried out his rounds.

The incident happened at around 5pm on Thursday, June 20, when the male driver returned to his van on Lodge Lane, near the junction of Bentley Road, Toxteth, and discovered his tyres had been slashed. As he checked the damage, he was struck over the head from behind with a bottle, and suffered lacerations to his neck and ear.

Three suspects reportedly fled down Lodge Lane before the victim called police. No items were reported as stolen as the driver had locked the van prior to leaving the vehicle.

Forensic, CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out, Merseyside Police said.

Detective Constable Frankie Massingham said: “This was a violent attempted robbery of a young man going about his daily business, and we are determined to find those responsible and put them before the courts.

“Lodge Lane will have been busy with pedestrians and road users at the time, so if you were in the area or passing by, please come forward with any information, dashcam, CCTV or other footage, as it could be absolutely vital to our investigation.”
