Android O is now Android Oreo
Following on from names like Nougat and Marshmallow and Lollipop and other nice sweet cute lovely things, Android's latest version is called Oreo.
Google announced the new version of its mobile operating system on Monday (August 21) during the eclipse, also confirming that it will arrive on devices by the end of this year.

Oreo, aka Android 8.0, was unveiled with a statue across the street from Chelsea Market, New York, where the original Nabisco factory was located and where the first Oreo came to life.
It was also announced on Twitter, with Android's official account tweeting: "Android meets @Oreo for the sweetest treat yet. #AndroidOreo is smarter, faster, & more powerful."

Sagar Kamdar, Android's director of product management said of the new name: "At our microkitchens at Google, we have Oreos all around. Our engineers just kept eating Oreos with their glasses of milk."
Android Oreo will be available by the end of the year on various devices including Sony, Sharp, Samsung, Essential, General Mobile, Huawei, LG, Motorola and LG.

It will, of course, first roll out to Google's Pixel and Nexus devices, while new features include better battery life, a new copy-and-paste tool.
