Strictly Come Dancing's Ashley Roberts has suffered a torrential backlash from fans for advancing to the finals given her previous dance experience, but professional dancer Anton du Beke has defended the star's position.

While some viewers have suggested it's unfair that the former Pussycat Doll has made it so far when she wields a huge advantage over fellow finalists Joe Sugg, Faye Tozer and Stacey Dooley, Anton has pointed out that it's the viewers who got her this far in the first place.

When asked during a Good Morning Britain interview if he thought it was unfair that Ashley was in the final, Anton said: "Not enormously. She has dance experience but then you've got the fifth judge, the audience, to decide who they want to go through, they're the only people who vote."

He wouldn't disclose which celeb he thought would be lifting the Glitterball trophy on the weekend, but he did commend YouTuber Joe for improving throughout the competition.

"Joe [Sugg]'s terrific," Anton shared. "He has come on so incredibly. He's got a wonderful frame. He looks like a little ballroom dancer. Gorgeous."

Meanwhile, former Strictly judge Len Goodman recently affirmed that Ashley's experience did give her an advantage over the others.

"I think Ashley can already dance quite a bit... If you go to stage school, you may not be learning the waltz, but you do learn about movement and coordination and rhythm and timing, which will help in any form of dance. Any experience is good," Len told Good Housekeeping UK.

"As a judge you have to mark her [Ashley] as the best," he continued. "However, as a viewer you might say, 'I want someone who can't dance who has struggled and overcome and got to a decent standard', and I understand that, and I think that's what's happened to her."

The Strictly Come Dancing final airs on BBC One this weekend.
