'I am part of the problem': Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock admits history of sexual misconduct against women in a long confession on Twitter

Documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock has admitted sexual misconduct, revealing how he was accused of rape and settled a sexual harassment claim.

The filmmaker, famed for his 2004 documentary Super Size Me, wrote a confession online, in which he said he is "part of the problem" amid a spate of sexual harassment claims in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

"I’ve come to understand after months of these revelations, that I am not some innocent bystander, I am also a part of the problem," Mr Spurlock wrote on Thursday.

The Oscar nominee recounted on Twitter an incident in college where he was accused of rape by a girl in college.

He went on to detail a sexual assault allegation made around eight years ago, where he paid a settlement to his female assistant after yelling "hot pants" or "sex pants" at her.

He added: "Something I thought was funny at the time, but then realized I had completely demeaned and belittled her to a place of non-existence."

Mr Spurlock, whose first wife Alex Jamieson appeared in Super Size Me, then went on to admit he has "been unfaithful to every wife and girlfriend I have ever had".

At the end of the long statement, the US director offered possible explanations for his conduct, saying he suffered sexual abuse as a child and has "consistently been drinking since the age of 13".

He wrote: "I am part of the problem. We all are.

"But I am also part of the solution. By recognizing and openly admitting what I’ve done to further this terrible situation, I hope to empower the change within myself. We should all find the courage to admit we’re at fault."

In a tweet he added: "Will do everything I can to get better."
