Haynes, who plays Roy aka Arsenal on the show, has since taken to Twitter to respond to the news, explaining it was not his decision to step down as a series regular.

"Getting a lot of angry messages so just to clarify... I didn’t exit the last season of Arrow. I was not asked to come back for the final season as a series regular. But y’all know Roy... he’s never gone for too long," he wrote.

Emily Bett Rickards, who plays Felicity Smoak, also won't be returning as a series regular, while Katherine McNamara (Mia), Ben Lewis (William) and Joseph David-Jones (Connor) have all been given major roles for the final season.

Elsewhere, Entertainment Weekly recently confirmed that Rila Fukushima (Tatsu Yamashiro/Katana) will return to make an appearance in the season's second episode 'Welcome to Hong Kong'.

Oliver Queen first came across Tatsu in season three's flashback storyline. The last time we saw her character was in the season four episode 'Unchained'.

Arrow is returning to The CW for its eighth and final season on October 15.
