Asda has sounded the alarm for all its customers, issuing a stark warning about a fraudulent £250 voucher offer circulating on social media. The scam, which targets millions of shoppers, falsely promises a "free" £250 voucher to "children enrolled in school" and urges people to "apply" by a certain deadline.

Over the weekend, an avalanche of fake messages took over Facebook, prompting Asda to clarify that they are not offering any such vouchers.

A spokesperson for the supermarket chain, which competes with the likes of Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, and others, urged the public not to engage with these deceitful posts.

Speaking to The Sun, a representative for Asda said: "It has been brought to our attention that there are a number of scam posts on social media advertising Asda vouchers. These un-associated posts have been reported to Facebook and we are working hard to have them removed."

The spokesperson also advised customers to exercise caution online and only trust official Asda accounts or websites. One of the scam posts read: "Children Enrolled in School Receive £250.00 from ASDA" setting a fake "deadline" date that varies across different posts.

Another post falsely announced: "ASDA £250 payments have started! " and included a link to a suspicious website.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has also responded to the issue. A Meta spokesperson told The Sun: "We don't want anyone to fall victim to fraud which is why our platforms have systems in place to help us detect and enforce against scams.

"And we run consumer awareness campaigns on how to spot fraudulent behaviour."
