Asian driver complains after being pulled over by police 17 times in one year

An investigation has been launched after an Asian man claimed he has been stopped by the police officers from the same force 17 times in a year – despite being innocent each time.

Adeel Rehman, 35, has lodged official complaints with Staffordshire Police and the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) after being pulled over repeatedly by officers.

The father of two said he was first pulled over in Stoke-on-Trent last January after officers claimed he was involved in Class A drugs.

He says he has since been stopped in the city a further 16 times, most recently on December 29 when he and a friend were stopped by armed police as part of a firearms investigation.

Officers searched his Vauxhall Insignia but nothing was found, and Mr Rehman and his friend were released with no further action, he said.

He said: “When I have been pulled over the police have told me that they have intelligence on me.

“They say it is about drugs or firearms but I have never had anything to do with things like that. Now when I am out I just think the police are going to pull me over.”

An investigation is now underway into Mr Rehman’s complaints.

A police spokesman said: “We have recorded the concerns under the formal complaints process.

“These matters are being taken most seriously and a thorough investigation is underway into the issues raised.”
