Aston Villa hand Lewis Dobbin a Bodymoor Heath tour ahead of transfer deal

Prospective Aston Villa signing Lewis Dobbin has been shown around the club's training facility ahead of his switch from Everton, BirminghamLive understands. Dobbin was at Bodymoor Heath on Friday ahead of undergoing his medical with the Lions and a permanent move from Goodison Park to Villa Park is expected to be completed early next week.

Dobbin is heading in the opposite direction to Tim Iroegbunam, whose move to Merseyside was confirmed by all parties on Saturday morning. The midfielder spent three years at Villa and earned the club £9m by way of a transfer fee. Dobbin is expected to join Villa in a separate deal for a similar amount, as both sides seek to keep within the stringent PSR rules.

Stoke-on-Trent born Dobbin has been at Everton for ten years and made his first start last summer, against Wolves. He scored his only goal in 15 first-team appearances for the Toffees back in December, when they beat Chelsea 2-0 at Goodison Park. Dobbin also spent the 2022-23 season on loan at League One Derby County, where he scored five goals in 54 appearances.

Dobbin is one of many plates which Villa are spinning at this moment; Ian Maatsen is due to check in from Chelsea for a fee north of £35m, while Omari Kellyman is heading in the opposite direction in a separate deal for fee worth around £19m. Villa are also closing in on sealing the return of Ross Barkley from Luton Town, have an interest in Conor Gallagher and are set to bring Enzo Barranechea and Samuel Iling-Junior in as part of the Douglas Luiz sale.

Dobbin, 21, has represented England at three age group levels, scoring three goals for the under 16s and five times for the under 17s.
