Police release CCTV of man wanted in connection with attack on Sikh man told: 'Muslim go back'

Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in relation to an attack on a Sikh man whose turban was grabbed and was told: “Muslim go back”.

The 42-year-old victim was queuing to get into Parliament when a man started shouting: “Muslim go back” at him.

The attacker then grabbed his red turban and tried to pull it off his head, before leaving the scene.

He is described as white, 5ft 10inches tall of stocky build and short black hair with stubble. He was wearing a dark blue jacket, blue jeans, black shoes and a black backpack.

In a statement, the force said it has long recognised the impact of hate crime on communities and the hidden nature of the crime, which remains largely under-reported.

It said: “We would appeal to anyone who witnesses or suffers any hate of any type to immediately report it so that action can quickly be taken and catch those responsible.”
