Attempts to Save Dolphin Stranded on Irish Beach Fail

Simon Berrow of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group was on hand at Lahinch in Co Clare on July 11 after being alerted to the presence of a dolphin in distress.

Video by Berrow shows the attempted rescue of the animal, which, according to the group, was not successful.

According to the Irish Examiner, a group of surfers also tried to help refloat the stranded dolphin.

Speaking to the Examiner, Berrow said: “The surfers did their best and we thank them for trying but sometimes a dolphin will live strand themselves. They did the right thing by reporting it. Sometimes we can help but if a dolphin is either too ill, weak or injured and they live strand, there’s very little you can do." Credit: Simon Berrow/Irish Whale and Dolphin Group via Storyful
