Man dies after being hit by a car in Colne

A man has died after being hit by a car on a busy road in Colne.

New Market Street was closed in both directions, between North Valley Road and Church Street, after the incident.

The road was re-opened earlier this evening after being shut for most of the day.

Officers were called at around 11.10am today (July 4). The pedestrian, a man, died and efforts were ongoing to inform his next of kin.

There were reports of an air ambulance in attendance as well as paramedics and police.

A police spokesperson said: “Please be aware that New Market Street, Colne, is currently closed in both directions in between North Valley Road and Church St following a road traffic collision.

“Please avoid the area where possible.

"We received a report of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on New Market Street in Colne at around 11.10am today ( July 4).

"Very sadly, the pedestrian, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Efforts are ongoing to locate and inform his next of kin.

"Anyone with information that can assist our enquiries can contact us on 101 quoting log 0415 of July 4."

An update at around 5pm read: "Please be aware that New Market St, Colne has now been fully re-opened following an earlier road traffic collision.

"Many thanks for your patience."
