What Avram Glazer told a Manchester United fan at Women's FA Cup final

Avram Glazer said he "wouldn't have missed" Manchester United Women's FA Cup final triumph over Tottenham at Wembley.

Glazer, who was in attendance for the women's team's defeat to Chelsea at Wembley last year, was in the Royal Box on Sunday to witness United's 4-0 stroll.

The United co-chairman told a fan at Wembley: “It’s a big day and I’m happy to be here. I wouldn’t have missed it. I love United. I wouldn’t want to miss this.”

On a rare journey across the Atlantic, Glazer also caught up with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy three years after the duo's infamous involvement in the abandoned Super League.

Glazer was present for United's fortuitous FA Cup semi-final penalty shootout success over Coventry City last month, having attended their League Cup and FA Cup finals last season.

The 63-year-old spent two years away from Old Trafford until Cristiano Ronaldo's second debut against Newcastle United in September 2021. Glazer has been to Old Trafford only once since, for the opening weekend defeat to Brighton in August 2022.

Glazer's brother, Joel, has not watched a game at Old Trafford since the Champions League quarter-final first leg defeat to Barcelona in April 2019.

There were more anti-Glazer chants from United supporters during Sunday's 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal, their 19th loss overall this season.

Old Trafford failed to cope with a biblical rainstorm as the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand roof leaked and water gushed down the stands. Footage also showed rain streaming down inside the tunnel and in front of balconies that accommodate hospitality guests.

There has been minimal work at Old Trafford since the Glazer family completed their takeover in May 2005. The only expansions - the north-west and north-east quadrants - were implemented in March 2006 but work was approved in February 2004.

United co-chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe has described Old Trafford as "run down" and is determined to rebuild the stadium on the existing site.

Labour party leader Sir Keir Starmer was invited to Old Trafford on Sunday as a guest of Manchester mayor Andy Burnham. Starmer spoke with Ratcliffe and Lord Coe, chair of the Old Trafford regeneration taskforce, before kick-off.

Ratcliffe elected to attend United's fixture with Arsenal rather than the Women's FA Cup final. Polly Bancroft, who will step down as the United head of women's football at the end of the season, and deputy football director Andy O'Boyle were both in attendance at Wembley.

Ineos uploaded a message from Ratcliffe that read: "Congratulations to the Manchester United Women's team on lifting the FA Cup today. A proud and historic moment for the team that is testament to their grit, determination and team spirit. A wonderful achievement. Many congratulations."

Goals from Ella Toone, Rachel Williams and a double from Lucia Garcia secured United Women's first major trophy six years on from their reformation.
