A seven-month-old baby has died after a dog attack at a family home. The tot suffered 'serious injuries to her head' when she was mauled to death in Coventry last weekend.

West Midlands Police said they responded to the incident on Shorncliffe Road, just after 3pm, last Sunday, June 16. She was rushed to hospital, but sadly could not be saved by doctors.

The force said the pet dog was not classed as a dangerous breed. It was removed from the property by officers and humanely destroyed.

A police spokesperson said: "She received treatment at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital for further treatment. Tragically, she died a short time later. Our thoughts remain with her family at this devastating time."

"We are in the early stages of our investigation and our enquiries are continuing. Anyone with any information should contact us via live chat on our website or by calling 101 quoting log 2407 of 16 June."
