Nelson the baby lemur bounces back after losing arm

The resilient creature underwent the operation and was back in the arms of his mother in just 30 minutes

Nelson the baby lemur is back to his playful self after a mysterious accident left him with just three limbs.

When the ring-tailed lemur was just a few days old staff at the Cotswold Wildlife Park noticed something was wrong with his right arm.

Vets at the centre checked him over but were at a loss as to what had happened.

Sadly they decided the best thing for the poor baby lemur was to amputate the limb.

Jamie Craig, curator at Cotswold Wildlife Park, said: "We don't know what happened, he was only a couple of days old, it was possible another lemur just grabbed it.

"We decided to remove the arm and everything went well."

The resilient creature underwent the operation and was back in the arms of his mother in just 30 minutes.

Nelson, now two months old, has become a firm favourite at the centre and despite his disability is among the most boistrous lemurs at the park.

Jamie added: "Lemurs are very resilient creatures and you wouldn't notice the difference unless you got up close to him.

"He's very popular among the staff here."
