Yahoo News Baby Reindeer deleted scene reveals what happens between Donny and Teri
After binge-watching Baby Reindeer on Netflix, we were almost left with more questions than answers. Where is the real Richard Gadd now? How many of Martha's emails were based on actual things she said? And do Donny and Teri end up together in the adaptation of the comedian's real story?
If you didn't already know, the series is inspired by true life events, of a man who was stalked and harassed by a woman two decades older than him, after taking pity on her in the pub he worked at. The ordeal took place over three years, in what started as an innocuous friendship, and ended up with over 4,000 emails, door-stopping and hours of voicemail messages.
In the Netflix adaptation, while being stalked by Martha, Donny meets Teri on a dating app. While the pair hit it off, Teri is eventually also harassed by Martha, and Martha's stalking of Donny creates a wedge between the couple. Donny later sees Teri in the street with another man, marking the end of their relationship, and offering him closure.
Now, Nava Mau, who plays Teri, has revealed they also filmed an additional scene which didn't make it into the final cut, which offers a little more detail on where they left things.
"There actually was one more piece of Teri and Donny’s relationship in the script, and I performed it," she told GQ. "Teri leaves Donny a voicemail five months later. So I think, for me, I got closure because Teri did too."
While Nava didn't reveal the contents of the voicemail, it sounds like it was positive. “That’s what gave me so much comfort, knowing that they found peace with regards to their relationship. Teri got her happy ending, you know? Teri found a new man, she didn’t lose her friends, she didn’t lose her job, she didn’t lose her smile. She’s good. And I think that is remarkable, because so often we’ve seen stories of trans people that end with them broken."
