Baghdad Protesters Try to Tear Down Barrier Installed by Security Forces

Protesters in Baghdad attempted to destroy a concrete wall installed by security forces on al-Rasheed street near al-Ahrar bridge in late November.

This video, captured by an anti-government activist, shows protesters trying to pull the barrier down.

Barriers like this were set in place by forces earlier in the month to contain protesters in the city.

Early on November 26, AFP reported that a protester was killed in the Iraqi capital after they were shot by a rubber bullet near al-Ahrar bridge.

Reuters reported that security forces opened fire on demonstrators in Baghdad and several cities in southern Iraq on Sunday, November 24, killing at least nine people.

US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy John C Rood visited Baghdad on November 24 and 25 and met Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi and Minister for Defense Najah al-Shammari to discuss security cooperation in the region, as well as the United States’ role in the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh.
