As RuPaul's Drag Race continues to take over the world with its historic Emmys success and expanding global audience, references to it keep popping up in more high-profile places.

Remember Miss Vanjie at Eurovision or Benedict Cumberbatch revealing himself to be a big fan at the Avengers press junket? The trend continued this week when Drag Race got mixed into the sweet, sweet batter on The Great British Bake Off.

This delicious blending of two things we deeply love came about when judge Prue Leith was so bowled over by a cake during Spice Week that she just had to… well, tongue pop! Have a look below:

Whether intentional or not, a tongue pop so passionate and full of attitude instantly reminded the Drag Race fans watching of the master herself… Miss Alyssa Edwards.

Now, Alyssa might not be the inventor of the tongue pop, per se, but she most definitely turned it into an art form on series 5 of RuPaul's Drag Race - so much so that it has become her trademark:

So, it was quite fun for fans of both Bake Off and Drag Race to imagine one iconic queen channeling another:

This wasn't actually the first reference to Drag Race on Bake Off. Last year, Sandi Toksvig slid in a sly joke about Prue and Paul Hollywood hosting their own spin-off PruePaul's Drag Race too.

That's a concept we can get behind, as long as the catwalk is entirely constructed of bread!

The Great British Bake Off continues next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4, while RuPaul's Drag Race will soon be back on VH1 in the US and Netflix in the UK for season 11 and All Stars 4.

Alyssa Edwards also has her own docu-series Dancing Queen coming to Netflix on October 5. Watch a teaser below:
