What did you miss?
Bake Off's Laura Adlington has told how she almost had weight loss surgery before going on the show but changed her mind.
The TV star – who was a finalist on the baking show in 2020 – has struggled with her weight since she was a child and said for a long time she felt as if she needed "to be fixed". However, she revealed on ITV's Lorraine that she had chosen to change her approach and accept herself.
Adlington, who has now penned a book entitled Diet Starts Monday, urged: "Don’t live a small life just because you are bigger."
What, how, and why?
The baker told host Lorraine Kelly that her weight had been an issue for a long time. "I was going to have bariatric surgery just before going on Bake Off and I decided that it wasn’t for me," she said, explaining: "I realised it wasn’t right for me as it wasn’t going to address the emotional reasons why I eat."
Adlington went on: "And then I thought, do you know what, I’ve spent my whole life on this hamster wheel of hating myself and dieting and it has got me nowhere so maybe I should just kind of look at an alternative approach. And what if I just accepted myself instead."
The star said she decided to write her book in the hope of helping other people going through the same thing. "We kind of told I think as women, that we need to look a certain way to be accepted, loved and respected and I just think that’s rubbish really," she said.
"What I’m trying to say is please focus on your health and not on the scales," Adlington told viewers. "Go grab life!" she urged.
What else happened on Lorraine?
Adlington also opened up about her Bake Off experience. She shared that although being on the show "completely changed my life", she was put off cooking for a while afterwards because of negative comments from trolls.
I lost my love for it a little bit after Bake Off," she said. "Because I got trolled really badly - 'You were rubbish', 'You shouldn't have got through to the final'." "People are horrible sometimes," she said.
