Barack Obama thrills fans by wishing Joe Biden a happy birthday using a popular internet meme
Barack Obama thrilled fans after wishing his former vice president happy birthday in the form of a popular internet meme.
The former president celebrated Joe Biden’s birthday by tweeting an “Obama-Biden bromance” meme, capturing the duo’s friendship over the years.
Tweeted from Mr Obama’s official account, the meme shows a serious Mr Obama giving his 2015 State of the Union address before Congress as Mr Biden grins and points in the background.
The caption describes Mr Obama planning to wish his colleague a happy birthday, before Mr Biden interrupts to do it for him.
ME: Joe, about halfway through the speech, I’m gonna wish you a happy birth--
BIDEN: IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!
ME: Joe.
Happy birthday to @JoeBiden, my brother and the best vice president anybody could have. pic.twitter.com/sKbXjNiEjH— Barack Obama (@BarackObama) November 20, 2017
On a more serious note, the 44th president also called Biden his “brother” and “the best vice president anybody could have.”
In the post, Obama appears to recreate the flurry of Obama-Biden memes that appeared in the wake of the 2016 US elections:
BIDEN: I'mma punch him when he comes here.
OBAMA: No, Joe. Don't do that.
BIDEN: Punch him round the back.
OBAMA: Joe.
BIDEN: Kick, then. pic.twitter.com/TmbPfrBalT— SimonNRicketts (@SimonNRicketts) November 9, 2016
Biden: I'm never taking this thing off.
Obama: Joe--
Biden: I mean it.

Social media lit up at Obama’s acknowledgement of the much-loved meme:

Red alert, Obama knows about our @JoeBiden memes and pulled them out as a birthday shout-out. https://t.co/UjqSYb2NgU

For some, it stirred up emotions:

We miss you both, terribly. Happy birthday, Joe!

This is not the first time the former president and his vice have used social media to wish each other happy birthday in unconventional ways.
In August 2016, Biden wished happy birthday to Obama with this jokey tweet:
Happy 55th, Barack! A brother to me, a best friend forever. pic.twitter.com/uNsxouTKOO
— VP Biden (Archived) (@VP44) August 4, 2016
If anything, Obama's meme seemed to confirm to the world that the Obama-Biden friendship is still very much alive, even outside of the White House.
