BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood has confessed she thought her fiancé was joking when he surprised her with a proposal while on a picnic.
The 59-year-old presenter confirmed her engagement after flashing a diamond ring while reading the weather from the Chelsea Flower Show on the BBC morning show.
Host Sally Nugent asked her: “I’m a little bit concerned about you this morning. I don’t know how you’re managing to stand up with that giant rock on your left hand, Carol.”

Kirkwood then revealed: "We went out for a picnic, I had absolutely no idea. The weather was glorious, we were sitting chatting, and then my other half was a wee bit nervous and he was fumbling in his pocket and then out came a ring.
"I thought he was joking actually, I didn't believe him. But it was quite romantic.
"You're making me really embarrassed now."
The TV presenter – who was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 - added that she was "thrilled".
Kirkwood revealed in June 2021 she had found love again with a mystery man, following her split from husband Jimmy Kirkwood in 2008.
She told Prima magazine in 2021: "I don't want to say too much about my boyfriend, but I will say that he is very kind and very funny - he is always making me laugh. And extremely handsome, as well."
The presenter added: “He is the best thing that's ever happened to me, without a shadow of a doubt.”
Kirkwood was married to her former husband for 18 years.
After they split, she told the Radio Times: “I found myself when I got divorced.
