BBC's Controller of Programming Dan McGolpin has spoken about Strictly Come Dancing's future this year as many productions have been temporarily paused due to coronavirus restrictions.
Dan revealed that the BBC One show's bosses have every intention to bring back the series this Autumn, but they're also adhering to the government's advice to stay indoors to combat the spread of coronavirus.
"It wouldn't be the same if we didn't have Strictly in the autumn, would it?" he told BBC Essex. "So, no of course, the BBC is doing everything it can, and I know that everyone involved in that production team would absolutely love that to happen this autumn."
The professional dancers have been confirmed, and the celebrity line-up is theoretically due to be announced in the summer.
"We've really just got to keep watching the government advice," Dan continued. "Thinking about what's possible. And if there's any way of bringing Strictly back this autumn, then we absolutely will. That's very much our intentions, so yeah fingers crossed."
Professional dancer Karen Hauer recently addressed the uncertainty around this year's series while appearing on This Morning.
"The most important thing right now is that we're following the government guidelines and staying home and staying safe," Karen said. "We're trying to dance and stay fit as much as we can. We need Strictly. We hope that Strictly does come back."
Anton du Beke also opened up about the future of the show during an appearance on Channel 4's The Steph Show, telling host Steph McGovern: "I should think the pre-production of it should be going ahead as normal.
"It's when we get into the studio, the pros get into the studio in August... so hopefully we will be out of it by then, so hopefully we can get back into the studio."
