Beyond Paradise is set to return for a third series and a festive special.

The confirmation arrives after the second series' dramatic conclusion on Friday evening when DI Humphrey Goodman, portrayed by Kris Marshall, and Martha Lloyd almost wed.

Debuting last year as an off-shoot of Death In Paradise, the series features Kris Marshall reprising his detective inspector role tackling life complexities alongside his fiancee, played by Sally Bretton from Not Going Out, on the Devon coast.

In the last episode that aired, the couple finalised their fostering process and welcomed Ryan into their household. Simultaneously, a surprising shift takes place in the professional dynamics between PC Kelby Hartford and CS Charlie Woods while DS Esther Williams investigates a prized item robbery from the Shipton Abbott Museum.

The varied narrative arc of the series includes the Shipton Abbott police team managing incidents such as a death amidst a murder-mystery play, a local fishing champion mysteriously disappearing at sea, and an arson attack forecasted by a medium.

Red Planet Pictures' executive producer Tim Key lauded the reception of the second series and said: "The response to series two has been fantastic." He added: "So much love goes into the making of the show and we're delighted that the audience has enjoyed it so much."

"We can't wait to get back to Shipton Abbott for another Christmas special and series to continue the story and learn more about our characters and the town they live in I can promise that we'll be making the viewers laugh, cry, laugh a bit more and then baffling them with a series of ingenious puzzles."

Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, said: "Beyond Paradise has become such a huge hit with millions of viewers across the UK."

"It's a show that is absolutely on a roll, and we're beyond pleased to bring more fiendishly clever mysteries from the Shipton Abbott team to the BBC."

The drama series will be available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer when it makes its return.
