Martin Roberts was alarmed moments after walking through the front door of a property on today's Homes Under the Hammer.

The 60-year-old fronted Thursday's episode of the BBC programme alongside Dion Dublin. Martin, who hails from Warrington, was also on location for the first home on the episode.

The expert was initially impressed with the exterior of the property in Staffordshire, but things suddenly took a turn when he stepped inside. He said: "The first thing you notice is this overwhelming smell of animal

"Even just glancing around, there are lots of signs of this place being shared by humans and canines. Downstairs loo has lots of scratch marks."

Martin continued the tour and said the kitchen "just feels wrong" as he said: "Look at this. Actual dog hairs in the grease above the cooker. That is wild. Well that wasn't very pleasant."

Martin said the main issue with the house was cosmetic so wouldn't have been too tricky for any new owners to renovate. The home was listed as £90,000 and was sold for £99,500 to recently retired couple, Katie and AJ.

Martin was impressed by the renovation project as they converted the home into a three bedroom property and said it was now valued at £175,000 - £185,000 after the refurbishment.
