A Swansea beach bar has been praised as one of the best in the UK - and it's easy to see why! The Secret Beach Bar & Kitchen, on Mumbles Road, is the only Welsh venue to be listed in the recent "Best beach cafes around the UK" by The Week.

The eatery opened in 2019 and is owned by local siblings Ryan and Lucy Hole, who are also behind Swansea' The Lighthouse Bar & Kitchen, Rok restaurant at Bracelet Bay and The Green Room Bar & Kitchen. The Secret serves a wide range of tantalising cocktails, beer, wine, soft and hot drinks and a varied menu of delicious main meals throughout the day and into the evening, against an unparalleled backdrop of gorgeous Swansea beach.

In The Week's 'Best beach cafes around the UK' piece, journalist Adrienne Wyper complimented the venue's location and made a special mention of its Welsh breakfast and "international favourites" on the lunch and dinner menu.

Quoting The Times, which labelled The Secret as one of the UK's top beach cafes last year, Ms Wyper said: "This wood-walled café is on the sands, 'just below the Uplands suburb where the poet Dylan Thomas grew up', said The Times. Tuck in to a Welsh breakfast with laverbread and cockles, or the international favourites on the lunch and dinner menu, such as crab ravioli, halloumi burger or steak salad, while enjoying the view of 'a long and splendid curving shore', as Thomas described it. Reacting to the great news that The Secret has been labelled one of the best beach cafes, Ryan Hole said: "It's the recognition that the staff deserve, we've got a really brilliant team there - they're all like a family and best friends! And they work so hard!

"I'm just chuffed that they've got some recognition that they can be proud of because obviously being a beach venue when the sun comes out, we're absolutely crazy busy! They really step up and they really have in the last few weeks in particular.

"Thanks everyone locally and further afield, we get a lot of tourists, for all their support. It was our first venue of our portfolio and it's one we're really proud of, a real flagship."
