Ben Shephard has called out Prince Harry for criticising his dad so soon after Prince Charles buried his own father.

The Good Morning Britain presenter spoke out after Harry’s interview on the Armchair Expert podcast, in which he compared his life to The Truman Show movie and shared his thoughts on parenting, saying he wanted to “break the cycle" with his own children.

“He's been a parent for five minutes, what's he doing talking about being a parent, telling people... that's the thing I find really, really difficult,” Shephard said.

The TV star also questioned the timing of the comments, given that Prince Charles’s father Prince Philip only died last month.

He told co-host Kate Garraway: "The one thing about Harry was that he just felt so normal and down to Earth and there's something that has happened. His father buried his own father just a few weeks ago!

"I can't imagine how impossibly difficult that has been for the whole family."

Shephard, who has two children himself, said every parent has been in the same place.

“You think you're going to take the best bits of your parents and then you get down the line 10 or 15 years later and you say 'I can see why you did the best you did and have more respect and understanding’,” he said.

In the interview, Harry said his life was "a mixture between The Truman Show and being in a zoo".

Talking about parenting, he said: "I don't think we should be pointing the finger or blaming anybody.

"But certainly when it comes to parenting, if I've experienced some form of pain or suffering because of the pain or suffering that perhaps my father or my parents had suffered, I'm going to make sure I break that cycle."

Harry was also criticised by Shephard's former colleague Piers Morgan over the comments.

The outspoken TV star called Harry a "spoiled brat" on Twitter, and posted: "For a guy who craves privacy, Prince Harry sure is yapping a lot about his private life...”

Morgan stepped down from Good Morning Britain in March, after a row over comments he made about Prince Harry's wife Meghan Markle.
