Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley had to do their best to keep composure as This Morning took a 'chaotic' turn on Thursday, as viewers threatened to 'switch off'' due to sound disruption live on air and Ben ended up stepping in to try and get things back on track.

The ITV show's new main presenting duo took charge of proceedings for the final time this week, before being replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary on Friday and discussed all manner of topic during the course of the 150 minute show. One segment saw Ben and Cat speak live, via video call, to Members of the Chatteris in Bloom group, who were quick to vent their frustrations at being told by Cambridgeshire County Council that they must now complete a £300 health and safety course before putting hanging baskets on street lights..

The women, Sue and Anne, pressed the point that they had been hanging the baskets 'for years' without any issue, as they took aim at the local authority in defiant manner. However, despite Ben and Cat admiring their passionate response, both they and people watching at home struggled to hear the pair, due to a poor signal; as off putting sounds was heard.

After dealing with the obvious disruption for a few seconds, Ben then interjected to tell the This Morning guests: "Sue and Anne, I can see your frustration. The line’s not great, unfortunately, so we didn’t get all of that.

“But we can tell from your animation how angry and cross you are. You’ve been hanging these baskets beautifully for many years."

While sharing in Ben and Cat's annoyance at Thursday's technical issues, viewers at home were left confused earlier this week when the presenters called a halt to proceedings, just moments after opening titles rolled, for a 'breaking news' announcement, which turned out to be about Marks & Spencer selling padded underwear, rather than anything of real importance.
