Bentley Edition 8 Portends Twin-Turbo V-8's EndBentley
  • Bentley has unveiled an Edition 8 variant of the Continental GT, Continental GTC, and Flying Spur.

  • The Edition 8 signifies the end of the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 for those three models, before Bentley launches its new hybrid V-8 setup.

  • The twin-turbo V-8 will stick around in the Bentayga SUV for the time being.

Just two days ago, Bentley provided the first glimpse of its new hybrid V-8 powertrain, set to replace the brand's long-running W-12 engine and capable of producing more than 740 horsepower. Now we've learned that this hybrid setup's arrival will also mark the end of the gas-only 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 in three of Bentley's offerings, with the automaker revealing today its "Edition 8" variants of the Continental GT, Continental GTC, and Flying Spur sedan.

This special edition will be sold exclusively in North America and is decked out with options from Bentley's customization department, Mulliner. All of the exterior trim is blacked out for a more menacing appearance, and buyers will be able to chose from more than 60 hues in Mulliner's Extended Paint catalog. The Edition 8 rides on 22-inch wheels—offered with either a five- or 10-spoke design—with self-leveling center caps, and the fuel filler cap is also crafted with a jewel-like look.

Inside, Bentley has fitted its Comfort Specification seats, topped off with a special, ornate pattern from Mulliner called Palm Fluting. The seats also feature contrast stitching and the Edition 8 logo embroidered onto the seatbacks. The Edition 8 badge also appears on the doorsills as well as the front fender of the Continental GT and GTC models and the D-pillar of the Flying Spur.

There's no word on how much extra this special edition will cost, but we bet it will be a significant upcharge. The 2024 Continental GT starts at $245,425, while the convertible goes for $270,150 and the V-8–powered Flying Spur costs $218,050. Deliveries of the Edition 8 models will start soon.

The twin-turbo V-8 will stick around under the hood of the Bentayga SUV for the time being, but we don't expect it to last too much longer. Bentley says it has built more than 53,000 V-8 examples of the Continental GT, GTC, and Flying Spur since launching the 4.0-liter engine in 2012.
