A new study has revealed the best places to go stargazing and full moon watching in England and Swindon has made it onto the list.

The team at Millets have looked at light and air pollution to determine the best places to go stargazing, ranking Swindon eighth out of ten towns and cities.

Swindon has optimal stargazing conditions, with some of the lowest levels of light and air pollution in England.

Although the summer months bring shorter nights and can reduce stargazing opportunities, the team have highlighted a few dates where people are more likely to witness astrological phenomena.

The UK can expect to see the ‘Flower Moon’ on May 23 – a full moon that signals the arrival of spring.

But the best nights to stargaze are expected to be between May 6-9, where there will be the lowest levels of illumination so it will be easier to see faint stars.

It is predicted that between June 4-7 the stars will be more visible as the new moon phase begins and brings total darkness, with the chance of witnessing events like shooting stars.

The same week in July, August and September is set to bring further success to stargazers.
