Best photos of Prince Charles to celebrate his 70th birthday

The Prince of Wales celebrates his 70th birthday on 14 November and he and the Royal Family have enjoyed a number of festivities leading up to it, including a TV magic show.

Charles is the eldest son of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. Born in 1948, he became next in line to the throne at the age of four and is the longest serving heir apparent in British history.

In 1962, he attended Gordonstoun, a school near Elgin in Eastern Scotland which The Duke of Edinburgh had attended. Following his secondary education, the Prince went to Cambridge University in 1967 to read archaeology and anthropology at Trinity College. He changed to History for the second part of his degree and achieved a 2:2.

Charles set up The Prince’s Trust in 1976, which has helped thousands of vulnerable youngsters get into education and jobs. He has also spoken passionately about the environment and climate change through the years.

Following family tradition, Charles has served in the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. He began dating Lady Diana Spencer in 1980 and the pair were married in 1981. The couple had two sons Prince William and Prince Harry, born in 1982 and 1984 respectively.

Charles and Diana’s marriage broke down and the pair separated in 1992. Their divorce was finalised in 1997. Tragically, the Princess died in a car crash in Paris in 1997.

In 2005, Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall.

The Prince is grandfather to Kate and William’s children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Three will become four when his youngest son Harry and daughter-in-law Meghan have their first child next spring.
