Ahhh, remember the heady days of the early noughties when Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake stepped out in matching double denim, and a teenage Billie Piper eloped to Vegas with Chris Evans?

Well, radio host Evans plumb forgot until ex-wife Piper gently reminded him during her interview on his BBC Radio 2 show earlier today.

The 35-year-old actress was joined by fellow guests Anne-Marie and Pete Tong when the conversation turned to Las Vegas, and Pete asked Billie whether she had ever visited the city.

After a short pause, the star said, "Once or twice," before telling Evans: "I think we got married in Vegas."

Chris immediately saw the funny side as he responded: "Oh, that's right we did, we did get married in Vegas."

The former couple famously tied the knot back in 2001 after a six-month romance, when Piper was just 19 and Evans 35.

They split in 2005, and their divorce was eventually finalised in 2007, but the pair remained close friends, and managed to laugh off the potentially awkward moment earlier today.

Piper is currently starring alongside Carey Mulligan and John Simm in BBC Two's Collateral, and speaking about her acting parts, she continued: "I wait for about seven years before I can sit down and watch it as an audience member instead of with a critical eye. I get quite emotional about it and then I'm fine with it."

Collateral writer David Hare recently revealed that he was surprised Piper – who has taken her critically-acclaimed play Yerma to Broadway – was up for a supporting role in his thriller.

Piper's character is the troubled ex-wife of a politician played by Simm, both of whom become embroiled in an investigation led by DI Kip Glaspie (Mulligan).

"Everybody who was available, who was our first choice, did it," he said. "[But] Billie Piper, we didn't even think of, because the part is not the leading part.

"Billie's agent simply rang us and said, 'Billie's read this and she'll play that part' – I think actors really want to do material that annexes new subject matter, that annexes stuff you haven't seen on television."

Collateral continues next Monday on BBC Two at 9pm.
