Birmingham Airport has issued advice for any passengers checking in online and travelling light with hand-luggage only. BHX shared a warning for those arriving with their online check-ins already complete.

Passengers without larger baggage were told to "arrive in line with your check-in opening time" and sure they make their way straight to be searched at security. The security hall at the travel hub is currently undergoing a major refurbishment as part of a £60 million project to prepare for new hand luggage rules.

Some new scanners have already been installed, with the rest up and running by June 1. Passengers will then no longer need to remove their liquids or electronics from their bags and will not be restricted by a 100ml liquids limit. But until then, travellers must stick to the existing rules.

The advice, posted to X on Sunday (April 28), urged holiday-makers to continue to ensure their liquids and electronics are out of the bags ready for screening. It read: "If you have checked in on-line, and have hand luggage only, please arrive in line with your check-in opening time and make your way straight to the security search area.

"Ensure that you have your liquids and electronics out of your bags for separate screening." Birmingham Airport previously issued advice for all customers on how they should prepare for security, from coats and jackets to shoes and food.

They said: "To save you time and make your journey more enjoyable, please follow our advice to prepare for security. Have travel documents ready for inspection.

"Comply with your airline's guidelines on cabin baggage allowance. Have all liquid, gel or cream toiletries and cosmetics in containers of 100ml or less each in a transparent re-sealable plastic bag ready for security staff to x-ray separately."
