Black Friday is finally upon us and if you’re in the market for a new gaming console, now is the time to invest.

With so many options up for grabs, it can be tricky to know which one to opt for and whether you’re actually getting a good deal but that’s where The Independent’s IndyBest team comes in.

Our IndyBest team has hand-picked every deal featured here. We may earn some commission from the links in this article, but our selections have been made independently and without bias. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.

While there are great deals to be found on various consoles, the very best savings are on the Nintendo Switch, specifically bundles, which combine the latest version of the console with brand new games, memory cards, accessory packs, and memberships.

However, with very limited availability, if you see one of these, you'll want to snap it up fast.

The best bundle deal we have come across so far is from online retailer Very which, as part of its Black Friday bonanza, is offering a Nintendo Switch Console with LEGO Movie 2, LEGO DC Supervillians and LEGO Worlds, with savings of £40.

Another great buy from the same retailer is the Nintendo Switch Lite (a cheaper and lighter version) can pick up the console with Pokemon Sword and Minecraft with savings of £50.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the different types of consoles, The Independent’s technology editor and avid gamer, Andrew Griffin, explains what makes the Switch such a great choice, whether you’re in the market for a Christmas gift or simply looking to expand your own gaming arsenal.

“To get this out the way: the Switch is an entirely different proposition, but one that’s not worth ruling out,” he says.

“The games are incredible, the console is packed with fun, and Nintendo have pulled out a stroke of genius all around. It has its downsides – the graphics and performance are nowhere near as futuristic and powerful as the other bigger consoles – but that’s what you get for it all fitting in a box you can throw in your bag and play on the move.”

He adds: “This year, there’s also the Switch Lite: a cheaper and lighter version that can be carried around, and will suit anyone on a budget, with limited space or who never wants to play it on their TV anyway.

“Ultimately, you’re probably not deciding between a Switch and other consoles; but if you’re deciding whether to buy a Switch, then you should.”

Here are some more of the very best Nintendo Switch deals available now in the Black Friday 2019 sales.

How to get the best Black Friday deals

The key to making the most of this annual event is not getting sucked into deals that look too good to be true. Instead, do your homework and come up with a list of products you’re actually interested in. That way, you won’t buy lots of pointless things.

Then shop around for the best price, and make sure you know the actual RRP of the product, so you’ll know a good deal when you see one.

To find the original price of a product, use PriceSpy or CamelCamelCamel – the latter is especially useful for Amazon.

Finally, be sure to check back in closer to Black Friday where the IndyBest team will be hand-selecting the best deals from a range of retailers. If you can’t wait that long, read our other Black Friday guides right now.
