Black Mirror has been terrifying viewers with its honest satirising of current events and its believable depiction of the future, and there is more to come.

Netflix has announced that Charlie Brooker's series will return for a seventh season, and new details have been confirmed about the release. Perhaps most excitingly, one of the show's most beloved episodes is getting a sequel in the anthology series. Here is everything that we know so far.

Black Mirror is set to return in 2025. It has not yet got a release date with that timeframe, but what we do know is that the new season will be six episodes long in total.

An official trailer has not yet been released for season 7, but a teaser was shared that revealed the show would return in 2025 and that an episode would be a USS Callister sequel.

Little has been revealed about plot for all six episodes in season 7, but what we do know is that it will continue to be an anthology series with each new episode featuring a self-contained story.

What Netflix has revealed is that USS Callister will receive a sequel that follows the crew following the events of the season 4 episode. Sharing a teaser for the episode at the Next on Netflix event in March, the plot is: "Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning."

The original episode saw Daly (Jesse Plemons), a gifted programer frustrated with the world, create a Star Trek-like simulation within his multiplayer game using his co-worker's DNA to create sentient AI clones of them. He forces them to take part in his own personal sci-fi adventure, but the clones are keen to fight back.

Black Mirror season 7 made its first casting details known via a cryptic 'data drop' posted to X in September 2024 which revealed a bumper list of names, each of which is set to appear in upcoming episodes.

These included Doctor Who's Peter Capaldi, Deadpool and Wolverine's Emma Corrin, Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti, Parks and Recreation's Rashida Jones, Road House star Billy Magnussen, Jackpot star Awkwafina, Bridesmaids' Chris O'Dowd, Barbie's Issa Rae and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Jimmi Simpson.

As if that wasn't tantalising enough, extra names set to enter Brooker's Black Mirror dystopia include Succession star Harriet Walker, Black-ish's Tracee Ellis Ross, Horrible Histories' Paul G. Raymond, The Penguin's Cristin Milioti, Blue Jean's Rosy McEwen, Domino Day's Siena Kelly, Citadel's Osy Ikhile, Blade Runner 2099's Lewis Gribben, Firebrand's Patsy Fearan and Milanka Brooks from Mum and Dad I Don't Talk Anymore.

While this is a lot of information to digest in one go, it's sadly where casting details for Black Mirror 7 end – as exactly how these stars fit into which upcoming episodes remains a mystery.

Three of these names, Milioti, Simpson and Magnussen, appeared in the USS Callister episode – an instalment that we know will be getting a sequel in the new season. While unconfirmed, we can assume that most of that show's other cast members will return too. The original USS Callister episode also featured Michaela Coel, Kirsten Dunst and Aaron Paul.

Netflix will confirm further details of casting closer to the season's release.
