We've got high hopes for the sequel now that Dougherty is helming it, being that he's behind two of THE BEST scary films ever - Halloween anthology Trick 'r Treat and festive horror Krampus.

Dougherty was already on board to co-script the sequel with his Krampus partner Zach Shields and Max Borenstein.

Gareth Edwards's 2014 reboot, which was the 30th Godzilla film to be made, starred Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
