Boardmasters Festival cancelled after severe weather warning

The Boardmasters Festival, which was due to take place in Cornwall this coming weekend, has been called off because of warnings about severe weather conditions.

Florence and the machine, Foals and the Wu-Tang Clan are among the acts that had been booked to play at the three-day event.

Razorlight, Dizzee Rascal and Jorja Smith were also set to appear.

But after consulting with the police and independent safety advisers the organisers decided it was best to cancel following a Met Office warning about the likelihood of heavy rain and high winds.

In a statement they said: "The safety of you, the fans and attendees, as well as performers and crew comes first, and the potential risk is too severe for the event to go ahead at this time."

They added: "We sincerely regret the disappointment to fans, and apologise for any disruption caused to local businesses, performers and crew who were looking forward to Boardmasters as much as we were."

Information about ticket refunds will be available "as soon as possible".

The Boardmasters Festival is a mixture of music and surfing and skateboarding competitions and takes place in and around the town of Newquay.
