Keeley Hawes, who stars in the BBC's hit drama Bodyguard, has told of the moment she found out her son was caught up in last year’s Parsons Green terror attack.

More than 50 passengers were injured after the bomb partially exploded on the floor of a Tube carriage in west London last September.

As the incident occurred, Hawes said she received a text from 18-year-old son Myles McCallum.

She said it "doesn't bear thinking" about what might have happened to him.

She recalled the terrifying moment in an interview ahead of the Bodyguard finale on Sunday.

The 42-year-old told the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine: “I got a text from him written in capitals, so I knew immediately something was wrong."

She added: “They were in a tunnel and the lights were going on and off.

"The 'what if' doesn't bear thinking about."

Ahmed Hassan, 18, of Surrey, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 34 years in March after an Old Bailey jury found him guilty of attempted murder.

Hassan left a home-made bomb full of shrapnel on the District line train, which partly detonated as it stopped at Parsons Green sending a fireball shooting through the train.

There were 23 injured in the initial incident and a further 28 hurt as commuters fled the scene.

The judge said Hassan was a "dangerous and devious individual" who quietly went about plotting his attack with "ruthless determination and almost military efficiency while pretending to be a model asylum seeker".

Hawes, who grew up in London, also detailed other real life incidents, reminiscent of moments in Bodyguard, in the interview.

She explained how she has had “a few bodyguards” herself and detailed an anecdote of how her “feet did not touch the ground” once when one rushed her away from a fight at a party.

In the programme, her character, Home Secretary Julia Mantague, has been caught up in an explosion.

Bodyguard will be available to global audiences on Netflix, it was announced today.

The streaming service has acquired the series and will make it available to viewers globally outside of the UK and Ireland and China from October 24 this year.

The finale of Bodyguard airs on Sunday September 23.
