Bomb threat prompts evacuation of British Airways flight to London from Bermuda

Passengers were reportedly evacuated from a British Airways flight bound for London after a bomb scare at Bermuda’s international airport on Sunday night.

The flight was due to leave for the capital at 8.50pm but passengers disembarked the plan after a bomb threat, the Daily Mail reported.

Nearby roads were closed to traffic “while the airport building and its environs were searched by airport security” a spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service told the newspaper.

He explained: “Police were notified by staff at the LF Wade International Airport of a bomb threat that was received via e-mail.

“Staff also advised that emergency landing protocols had been initiated at the airport.”

He added: “Once the all-clear was given and the airport was declared safe, regular traffic flow was restored.”

Passengers were all reported to be safe and the facility was later declared safe.

A spokeswperson for British Airways told the Standard: “The safety of our customers and colleagues is always our highest priority and we followed our standard procedures to disembark the aircraft.

“Our teams are caring for our customers and supporting crew as we work to get them on their way as soon as possible.”

The flight was delayed overnight, and customers were provided with assistance on how to claim for overnight accommodation, meals and transportation.

The flight was due to re-depart from Bermuda on Monday evening.

The Standard has approached the Bermuda Police Service for comment.
