Boy, 14, taken to hospital after "sectarian" assault by gang of 20 "young males"

A 14-year-old boy had to be taken to hospital following what police have described as a "sectarian motivated assault" by a group of "20 young males" in Ormeau Park.

The PSNI launched an appeal for witnesses on Sunday in relation to the alleged assault.

The incident happened more than a week ago, on June 8, in Ormeau Park, a spokesperson for the PSNI said.

In an appeal published by police on social media, a spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Police are appealing for witnesses in relation to a sectarian motivated assault on a 14 year old boy which occured in Ormeau Park on the 8th June 2024.

"It is reported that at approximately 1730hrs a 14 year old boy was attacked by a group of 20 young males in Ormeau Park. The suspects are alleged to have run towards the Ravenhill Road. The 14 year old victim suffered injuries requiring treatment at hospital."

The spokesperson added: "If anyone witnessed this assault or has any information to assist with the investigation then contact Police on 101 quoting reference 1268 of 8th June 2024."
