Boy raced to hospital after collision with car in Plymouth

A road has been closed to traffic after a collision between a young boy on foot and a vehicle. The emergency services were alerted to the incident in Rothesay Gardens in Honicknowle, which runs parallel to Crownhill Road at 2.28pm today [Saturday June 29].

Devon and Cornwall Police's Force Incident Manager (FIM) confirmed to PlymouthLive that the incident involved a young boy, understood to be aged just 11-years-old, and a car.

The FIM said that at this stage the boy's injuries were "potentially life-changing" although this could develop following treatment at Derriford Hospital where the boy was taken.

The road was closed to allow for officers to carry out an examination of the scene. It is not known whether any arrests have been made at this time.

Police have asked for motorists to avoid the area for the time being and find alternative routes. In addition, anyone with information about the incident or who may have witnessed it, to contact police on 101 or via the website here, quoting log number 502 of 29/06/2024.
