Bridgerton's Bessie Carter is almost unrecognisable in new snaps from her upcoming role in UKTV's Outrageous. The actress, who gained fame for her portrayal of Prudence Featherington in the Netflix hit, will be playing one of six aristocratic sisters from the 1930s in the TV drama.

The 30-year-old has a history with period dramas, having previously starred as Evie Wilcox in BBC's 2017 adaptation of Howards End and Violet Woodhouse on ITV's Beecham House in 2019.

She's now set to take on the role of Nancy Mitford in a six-part series about the Mitford sisters, based on Mary Lovell's definitive biography, The Mitford Girls.

Netflix viewers are used to seeing Bessie as the flamboyantly dressed Prudence Featherington, with her tight red curls styled in an elaborate updo. She's often seen in bright greens, pinks and oranges alongside her sister Philippa (Harriet Cains).

However, new photos from the filming of Outrageous show the actress smiling and in character, sporting a short, tight, curly bob - a classic cut from the 1930s.

She's also pictured wearing a dark green velvet coat with a high neckline and a bright red lip, holding the clapperboard ahead of filming.

Firebird Pictures' new drama Outrageous is set to bring the scandalous lives of the six Mitford sisters to our screens, depicting their refusal to conform to the expectations of British high society.

The series promises to immerse viewers in the lavish and rebellious world of the Mitford sisters, dealing with their family drama, public scandals, political radicalism and personal adversities. The narrative probes how the unconventional practices of the Mitford family were a step ahead of their era.

Bessie will portray the role of Nancy Mitford, with Joanna Vanderham featuring as Diana Mitford and Zoe Brough playing Jessica Mitford.

Unity Mitford will be played by Shannon Watson, while Deborah Mitford by Orla Hill and Pamela Mitford by Isobel Jesper Jones. The star-studded cast also comprises Toby Regbo, Anna Chancellor and James Purefoy.

Anticipation will be high among fans as they keenly look forward to the reunion of Bessie and her Bridgerton co-star Calam Lynch, popular for his character Theo Sharpe.

Expressing delight on the project, Bessie stated: "I am thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity to bring someone as brilliant as Nancy Mitford to life."

Enhancing the excitement, she further added: "She was one piece of a truly fascinating family of remarkable and unique women, and I can't wait to tell their story."

Outrageous is a UKTV and BritBox International Original commission and will air on UandDRAMA and U, as well as BritBox International in North America, in 2025.
