The 2018 BRIT Awards, it has to be said, was a huge success.

Jack Whitehall’s presenting went off (mostly) without a hitch and there weren’t any major controversies to talk about – other than a merry Damon Albarn talking in a round-about way about Brexit.

As the celebs gathered hours before on the red carpet, a majority were wearing a white rose, in some way, shape, or form.

From Sam Smith to Rita Ora, the turn out to support the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements – in the name of discussion, exposing, and holding those accountable for sexual assault and harrassment – was strong.

‘I think it should have happened sooner, but I’m glad it is happening,” Ed Sheeran told BBC News. ‘It’s nice that people are aware of it now.’

Rapper Dave, who was nominated for a BRIT, was glad it was a topic finally being discussed publicly: ‘This is something that’s been going on and has been ignored for too long, and I feel it’s the least I could do to show some support and appreciation.

‘Me putting this on is a symbol of my awareness of the situation but I still feel like I haven’t done enough – I still feel like there’s more to be spoken and there’s more light to be shone on it,’ he admitted.

But Paloma Faith seemed to be of the feeling that men could indeed be doing a lot more.

‘The only thing I’m upset about tonight is not more men carrying white roses. I think they should have,’ she confessed.

‘I put a white rose on one of them, which I think is really important. Because I think men should support.’

‘What I think is really important is that we’re speaking across the board for women because I have never met a woman who hasn’t experienced it in any profession,’ she went on to say.

The successes of the night were notably artists Stormzy and Dua Lipa, who both won two awards each. Elsewhere, Ed Sheeran won the Global Success award and The Foo Fighters won their fifth award for Best International Group.
