A British Airways flight from Las Vegas to London has made an emergency landing in Montreal after a bomb threat was reported on board.

The captain of flight BA274 made the landing at Trudeau Airport, Canada, this morning as a dozen police cars rushed to the plane.

All 312 passengers were evacuated from the flight as police sniffer dogs searched the aircraft to find any traces of a bomb.

The concerned son of two passengers on board revealed that a “suspect device” had been reported after he spoke to his parents.

Writing on Twitter, Ewen Sommerville said: “My parents flight was diverted 2 Montreal, evacuated&searched. They and everyone safe and calm! [sic]

“[I] am looking forward to having them home soon!”

A BA spokesman confirmed that the captain of the plane landed it as a “precaution”, but made no mention of a bomb threat.

He said: “Our flight from Las Vegas to Heathrow landed safely this morning at Montreal and customers left the aircraft as normal after the captain took the decision to divert the aircraft as a precaution.

“The safety and security of our customers, crew and aircraft are our highest priorities at all times.

“We are looking after the customers and will provide hotel rooms for them and will rebook them to other flights as soon as we can.

“We are working with the Canadian authorities and giving them our fullest support.”

Montreal Police media relations officer Jean-Pierre Brabant said that bags were being removed from the plane and searched.

Police confirmed that no one was injured during the landing or evacuation.
