Great Portland Estates on Monday revealed that the media firm behind CNN and Cartoon Network is heading to Old Street, signing for a major new London headquarters.

The FTSE 250 property developer said one of its joint ventures has just let nearly 100,000 square feet of offices to Turner Europe, which airs shows such as The Amazing World of Gumball .

The firm, which is part of Time Warner, will relocate staff to 160 Old Street from smaller space at Great Marlborough Street in Soho.

The move will take place from autumn 2019. The deal is in response to a lease expiry at the firm’s current home, and the desire to have more space to grow into if needed.

GPE’s boss Toby Courtauld said: “This pre-letting to such a significant global company is a strong endorsement of the quality of our development.”

The building’s redevelopment will be completed next year, and it has space for more than 1000 staff.

The lease, brokered by property agents CBRE and JLL, will help allay concerns that Brexit would stop businesses expanding in London.
