A couple who run a traditional country pub currently for sale have said it is ‘business as usual’ until the property changes hands.

Lynsey and James Hogarty have operated The Royal Oak in Medomsley, near Consett, for the last six years.

It was put up for sale at around Christmas with a price tag of just under £400,000 but has not yet sold.

The current asking price is £375,000 and the pub is now being brought to the market by specialist business property adviser Christie & Co.

In a statement Mr and Mrs Hogarty said: “After six years of running the pub we feel now is the right time to take it to market as new ventures await.

“Customers should be reassured that it’s business as usual until we do sell, and that we remain open and very busy.

“This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced licensed operator to acquire a busy pub with a fantastic reputation for food, as well as a strong local drinking trade.

“Equally, the property may appeal to an investor looking to let the premises to an operator.”

Marslie McGregor, business agent at Christie & Co who is handling the sale, said: “I am very excited to bring to market The Royal Oak, Medomsley.

“The current owners have built the business to the success it is today; one of the area’s most popular and well-known venues serving quality, locally sourced food and drink.

“We expect much interest in this property and look forward to finding a buyer. “The successful purchasers will be inheriting not only a well-loved village pub, but one with a healthy and consistent level of trade.”
