Cairo PD arrests knife-wielding roommate

Apr. 1—CAIRO- A Cairo resident is under arrest after attacking two individuals with a knife.

According to reports, Cairo Police Department Officer Kyla Brown was dispatched to 13th Ave. SW on March 30, in reference to an unknown problem. Upon arrival, Brown found two males covered in blood. The males had cuts on their necks and near their eyes.

However, Brown was unable to communicate with the victims, due to neither of them speaking English.

With the help of CPD trainee Carlos Orozco to translate, Brown was able to determine that Esteban Lopez-Gomez and Marcus Chadler had been in an altercation with a male, known to them as, Juan Lopez.

Reportedly, Lopez, Chadler, and Esteban argued about rent before the incident occurred.

After discussing the rent, Esteban said he exited to his room and was lying down when Lopez entered and began stabbing him. Hearing the commotion, Chadler rushed to the scene and was then attacked by Lopez as well.

Both Esteban and Chadler advised Brown that Lopez was still in the residence.

As other officers arrived, Brown and her team secured the scene while Esteban and Chadler received medical attention. Brown thoroughly searched the home with Lopez nowhere to be found. The officers then turned their attention to the perimeter of the home, where Lopez was found lying in the bushes behind a house next to the residence with blood on his face. Lopez was transported to the hospital, where he shared a different version of events with officers.

Lopez claimed he was in his room when he heard a knock on the door. Opening the door, he found Esteban standing at the door with a knife, yelling at him about rent and telling him to leave.

Lopez told officers he ran out of the home because he didn't want to be killed.

Upon further investigation and treatment, Esteban and Chadler were both transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital to be treated for their wounds, while Lopez received treatment at Archbold Grady. Following his discharge from the hospital, Lopez was transported to the Grady County Detention Center and booked on aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime.
