Call the Midwife's Jessica Raine confirmed her pregnancy at a screening for BBC One's new drama Baptiste on Thursday (January 17).

The 37-year-old Informer actress is expecting her first child with fellow actor Tom Goodman-Hill, and she spoke about how being pregnant impacted on filming for the show – which is the anticipated spin-off series of The Missing.

Baptiste will see the return of the titular charismatic detective played by Tchéky Karyo, who was the lead investigator in Harry and Jack Williams's The Missing.

Attending the screening and Q&A of the show, Jessica – who played midwife Jenny Lee in Call the Midwife from 2012 to 2014 – revealed she filmed stunts while pregnant, and was "interested most in food on this job".

"I was a bit tired but the worrying thing for production was there was a car race and stunt and I neglected to tell them I was pregnant when I took the job," Raine told reporters.

"I broke the news and everyone was amazing. We had to work out how to do a car chase without me being in any danger. Also my character is quite hard and being pregnant is quite emotional so it worked well. I was interested most in food on this job!

"My shirts get bigger as the series goes on."

It was recently reported that Tom Hollander had joined the series, which will be set in Amsterdam. Baptiste ends up working with Hollander's character Edward's niece, who he believes is working as a call girl in Amsterdam. But is all really as it seems?

Speaking about his role, the Night Manager actor said: "I am very excited to be working with Harry and Jack Williams. They are brilliant storytellers of nuance and suspense."

Harry and Jack Williams added: “We have wanted to work with Tom for some time and are so pleased he is going to play Edward in Baptiste. Tom’s huge range and formidable talent make him a wonderful addition to our cast.”
