Calvin Harris and Florence Welch blast Conservative Party for using their music at annual conference

Both Calvin Harris and Florence Welch have hit out at the Conservative Party after their songs were used at their annual conference without permission from the stars.

The Tories held the event in Manchester yesterday, with Prime Minister Theresa May hitting the headlines after comic Lee Nelson handed over a P45 and she descended into a coughing fit.

Since then, Calvin and Florence have both taken to Twitter to draw attention to the fact that their music was used without approval, with Calvin even dubbing the conference a “sad event”.

After learning that ‘This Is What You Came For’ had been played, Calvin tweeted: “Conservative party conference playing my song was not approved – I do not support nor condone happy songs being played at such a sad event”.

The star also poked fun at May’s coughing fit, adding to his 12.3million followers: “Also a cough plus grey complexion suggests a liver cleanse is needed.

“Blood is probably very dark, body is trying to cleanse but lack of nutrients. Please Google”.

Florence And The Machine’s hit single ‘You Got The Love’ was also used at the conference, with Florence using social media to ask the party to not use any of her material again.

She wrote: “Today’s use of You’ve Got The Love at the Conservative party conference was not approved by us nor would it have been had they asked.

“If the Conservative party could refrain from using our music in future.”
